Shipping & Receiving Clerk

Position Summary

The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for properly receiving incoming inventory, timely staging and timely shipping outgoing orders while adhering to safety procedures and providing accurate, timely shipments.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Cleans working area daily.
  • Examines shipment contents and compares with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy.
  • Maintains a clean, well-organized, safe working environment.
  • Packs, sorts, and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins.
  • Ships and receives, unloads trucks, matches invoices to actual delivery and distributes materials, reporting discrepancies.
  • Records shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes.
  • Required to place parts on storage shelves and fill production carts.
  • Required to count physical inventory and input into database.
  • Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, crowbars, wrenches, chain saw, mallets, and drills.
  • Understands basic electrical and mechanical functionality.
  • Unpacks and creates wooden crates, containers, and various types of packaging for heavy mechanical parts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Communication Skills- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to understand and correctly use terms and vocabulary common to the construction field.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Mathematical Skills- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Ability to take measurements, use various scale conversions as well as determine special restrictions.
  • Reasoning Ability- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to assess and resolve minor problems.

 

Education/Experience/Certifications

High School diploma or GED preferred.  

 

Physical Requirements  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work in physically demanding jobs, including standing, kneeling, bending, lifting 50+ pounds regularly and working at varying heights.
