CNC Operator

Position Summary
CNC Operators typically work for factories and manufacturing plants to ensure product quality by overseeing factory machinery. They control the safe and efficient management of machinery and assembly equipment to create various products. Their job is to review machine manuals to determine the correct method for operations and they pre-program machines to perform tasks at specific intervals. They may also be responsible for requesting new machine parts and conducting standard repairs on machines.
Essential Job Functions
- Verifying settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to standards. Feed mechanism to be loaded by lifting material into position.
- Observing drilling, grooving, and cutting. Turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance and processes.
- Adhere to safety procedures and regulations by maintaining safe operations.
- Completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs to maintain the equipment properly to avoid unwanted and alarming situations.
- Maintained continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishment to achieve organizational goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Communication Skills- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to understand and correctly use terms and vocabulary common to the construction field. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a benefit.
- Mathematical Skills- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Ability to take measurements, use various scale conversions as well as determine special restrictions.
- Reasoning Ability- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability assess and resolve minor problems.
Education/Experience
High School diploma or GED.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work in physically demanding jobs, including standing, kneeling, bending, lifting 50+ pounds regularly and working at varying heights.
