The build at a glance
♦ What we did
This was a full renovation, turning an existing campus building into a student media space with podcast rooms, presentation rooms, and a green screen room. Travis finished the interior throughout, painted the green screen, and ran the metalwork on the staircases.
The standout was the ceiling. Travis applied an AcoustiBuilt sound-dampening system across the space, a specialty acoustic treatment only a handful of crews in San Antonio are trained to install, and a real asset in rooms built for recording. Outside, the crew handled exterior repaint work down low along the base of the building.
Making the walls look nice is the standard, and we set the standard.
♦ The Challenges
The building dates to the 1960s, and the architect’s original decorative metal screens were a feature the design wanted to keep. Rather than finish them in place, Travis pulled the screens, power washed and prepped them, then primed and finished them offsite before reinstalling. That gave a cleaner, higher-end result than field painting would, and kept disruption on the job site down.
The screens had started as an exterior element on the original building and were brought inside as decorative pieces, so getting the finish right mattered. The renovation ran about two years, with everyone happy at handover.
