The build at a glance
♦ What we did
Nearly every wood surface in the café came out of our San Antonio shop: the benches, the wood tables and their metal bases, the wall paneling and trim, the retail and merch display, and the coffee service cabinet.
Everything was built and pre-finished here, crated in sections, and shipped up I‑35 to Austin for install. Start to finish ran about six weeks.
Owning it from the shop floor through install is what keeps the fit tight and the finish consistent.
♦ The Challenges
The wood beam ceiling was the real work. The beam and rafter layout had to be coordinated around the building’s existing mechanical runs, so pieces were adjusted and re‑hung in the field until every line landed right.
The shell wasn’t perfectly level, either. Each piece was scribed to the condition it actually met rather than the dimension on the drawing slower, but the only way to get clean joints.
Tight working space and a live retail corridor meant install had to stay sequenced and out of the way.
